At Saoirse Art & Design, we believe in being different to the majority. Although surrounded on all sides by the 'throw-away society,' where disposability has become the norm, we devote our energies to the creation of works where longevity and preservation are what matter. These days, it has become increasingly common to see shoddy work produced with minimum effort: Saoirse is bucking that trend, too! We'll always go that extra mile to ensure that you are delighted with the fruits of our labours!
A key Saoirse difference is that your frames will be created by proprietor, Áine de Faoite. A former design engineer, Áine now works as both a professional framer and a professional artist. She draws heavily on her creative and aesthetic flair to help you achieve a distinctive style for your home or workspace; and uses her technical skills to ensure that the right materials and fabrication methods are used to present, protect, and preserve your work effectively.
When Áine decided to leave the engineering world, where built-in obsolescence is more and more the order of the day, her goal was to find a direction where her creative energies would be put into something lasting, and that she felt had truly human value. "I firmly believe I was put on the planet to be a designer," says Áine, "but I spent nearly twenty years designing the 'wrong' things!"
Saoirse is Áine's brainchild, born out of a deep love for art and craft, for form and function, for home and history, and a passion for quality.
The name 'Saoirse' (pronounced 'Seersheh') is Irish for 'freedom'. It was chosen because it perfectly captured the spirit of Áine's aspirations for a changed life: freedom of expression; freedom of career direction; freedom from the rat race; freedom to go against the grain, to dance to a different drum; and - best of all - complete freedom to work to her own exacting professional standards.
